Edmondson Great Lawn

The Edmondson Great Lawn and Flowering Border is one of the primary outdoor event venues for the Gardens, providing a spacious lawn surrounding by some of the most colorful plantings on the property. These plantings, rotated throughout the year, are an adaptation of the traditional English mixed perennial border to plant materials and planting approaches suited to the American South.

Various areas around the Great Lawn include a shady border under majestic oaks, a sunny, dry area on the east slope, and a local interpretation of a rock garden on the sloping south side. A circular walk through these borders allows visitors to fully appreciate over 300 types of flowering plants on display throughout the year and gracefully links the Welcome Center with the Garvan Pavilion, a high point of any visit to the gardens.
