Evans Children's Adventure Garden and Tree House Project

A garden within a garden, the Evans Children's Adventure Garden with the developing Tree House Project is Garvan's area specifically designed with kids in mind! Here are two worthy projects to support for future generations who will visit Garvan.

The Evans Children’s Adventure Garden offers 1.5 acres of pure fun! The interactive garden rocks with more than 3,200 tons (or 6.4 million pounds) of Arkansas-quarried boulders positioned to encourage exploration of the natural environment. A 12-foot waterfall cascades over the entryway to an ADA accessible, man-made cave, beckoning children inside to discover “ancient” fossils overhead. The garden also features a unique bridge constructed from wrought-iron " Cedar tree branches" and a maze of rocks that lead down to a series of wading pools. Parents can enjoy a bird’s eye view of their children at play from a 450-foot long, 20-foot tall elevated walkway that also provides scenic vistas of Lake Hamilton and the surrounding woodlands.

The Tree House will float in a small group of pines and oaks in the center of the Children's Garden, bending easily between them. The theme of dendrology, the study of trees and wooded plants, will drive both the form and program of the structure. The Tree House’s wooden screen follows this design theme by creating varying levels of transparency that allow parents to monitor their kids during play without detracting from the mystery and adventure of the structure. The Tree House will teach children about nature through interactive exhibits and structures, enabling children to learn and explore by stimulation of their imaginations, rather than through plaques and pictures. The structure will stand as an educational tool in its own right and, by engaging with the built form, children will be guided to understand the elements of the woodlands from multiple perspectives. Learning will be fun, as kids are encouraged to move and explore throughout the site.

The Junior Walk:

In addition to supporting the Children's Garden and Tree House through a donation, patrons may also choose to purchase a plaque along the elevated boardwalk. Named The Junior Walk, these plaques are a one-time purchase to commemorate your children/grandchildren/loved children on the site. You may download the form here and return with your payment to purchase a plaque.
